About Anima
We are an organisation fighting animal suffering. We are part of an international organisation, Anima International, and since 2017, we oppose animal cruelty in Norway. To achieve our goal we use scientific evidence, careful reasoning, and draw upon decades of collective experience. Just in the last few years, we have successfully helped improve the lives of tens of millions of farmed animals in Norway.
Our current objective is clear: to get the food giant McDonald’s to improve its animal welfare standards and finally close the gap that separates this company from most of Norway’s food industry, which has already begun to move away from outdated practices. This work is part of our broader effort to further our progress on helping the 75 million chickens raised annually in Norway, most of whom still endure severe suffering under current production systems.
We are impact-oriented and use a wide range of tools to make the world a better place. Our current international toolkit includes, among others:
- Investigations that reveal the reality hidden behind the walls of factory farms
- Negotiations with companies to eliminate the most cruel practices from their supply chains
- Advocacy that secure legal milestones for animals
- Pressure campaigns that hold companies accountable
We also share our expertise with other organizations to build a stronger, more effective movement.

About your role
We are a small and ambitious early-stage organisation with two full-time team members. Joining us now means stepping into a formative moment – helping to build an organization that will shape how animals are treated in Norway for years to come.
By joining us as the Operations Generalist, you will help lay the foundations of the organisation as it prepares for rapid scaling, not only increasing our impact for animals now but by also helping to shape the organisation we want to become.
You’ll be the person ensuring that every ambitious campaign we run — starting with our current work targeting McDonald’s — actually works and is sustainable in practice. You’ll help design and maintain the systems that make us faster, sharper, and more resilient: from budgets and payments to event logistics, internal coordination, and donor management.
This is not a back-office job. It’s the backbone of the organisation. Every efficient process you create and every obstacle you remove directly helps us pressure McDonald’s and other corporations to phase out the use of “turbochickens” — birds bred to grow so unnaturally fast that many struggle to stand, breathe, or even survive their own body weight. Your work ensures that our campaigns stay focused, funded, and friction-free.
If you have an analytical, engineering mind, like to organise complex systems, enjoy finding elegant solutions to messy problems, and want your work to have visible impact, this role is for you. Being technically literate — comfortable experimenting with small fixes, light automations, or integrations — is a strong advantage, especially since you’ll often collaborate with our international IT team.

Due to the broad scope of our work, there is no simple description of the perfect employee. Perhaps there are some areas in which you are stronger than others, and we are open to adapting this position to some extent to fit you.
What matters most is your mindset. We’re looking for someone who treats the mission as their own, learns fast, and does what’s needed. We offer salaries above the typical non-profit standard, real flexibility, and a high level of trust — but what truly matters is ownership. You’ll thrive in Anima if you see problems and fix them, take initiative without waiting to be asked, and care deeply about making the organization succeed for the animals.
We are looking for a generalist rather than a specialist. Some traits are essential: high conscientiousness, critical and analytical thinking, persistence, and endless curiosity.
No previous experience is required for this role. We value mindset, clarity of thought, and drive over credentials. While experience will be valued (and reflected in the salary), we welcome applications from both seasoned professionals and passionate newcomers who align with our organisational culture.

- Employment agreement - We offer a permanent, full-time (40 hours/week) employment contract with an initial 6-month probation period.
- Transparently set compensation – Our salaries are not negotiable and are based on a transparent algorithm that is the same for each role.
Your minimum salary will be 50 383 NOK gross. The salary base may increase due to previous experience related to the position and activism (+3% for each year). In addition, the salary increases with your seniority in Anima according to the following model:
+ 7% – for every year worked at Anima during the first 5 years of work
+ 5% – for every year worked at Anima during the next 5 years of work
+ 3% – for every year worked at Anima during the next 5 years of work
+ 2%– for every year worked at Anima during the next years of work

What do we require from you?
- Strong belief in the mission of our organization. Working for us should not be thought of as a ‘career step’. We want people who are motivated by our mission above all.
- Fluency in both Norwegian and English. You will be working in a Norway-based organisation which will require constant communication with Norwegian speakers. At the same time we are part of an international organization where cross-borders collaboration is the daily norm, requiring strong English language skills.
- Ability to work in Norway. This offer is open to candidates who are either currently Norway-based, or are willing to move to Norway for the job. We are happy to do whatever we can to help you in relocating, depending on your needs and our ability. If you have questions about what we can help with, don’t hesitate to write to us.
- Flexible availability. Offering you great flexibility in terms of working hours, we need the same flexibility from you. We think of ourselves as a small startup. The success of the organization rests on a handful of highly motivated advocates who want to do something ambitious with their lives. You must be comfortable working full-time (40 hours / week), part of which may take place during non-standard hours or weekends to accommodate differences in time zones, volunteer activists' operating hours, and unexpected events.
This means that if you are just starting your studies or have other significant commitments, it will probably be difficult for you to meet our requirements for full-time work and flexible availability. - Ability to travel occasionally. We work remotely and so we don’t often get the chance to see our colleagues in person. To remedy that, we hold team gatherings, organization-wide summits and participate in conferences together. We see these meetings as an important part of our work and a way to build a strong organization. Such trips usually take from 3 to 4 days. The specific amount and frequency of travel required depend on one's role. In this position, you will be traveling 1-2 times per quarter on average.
- Not being an asshole. We expect you to treat others with respect, decency and compassion – even the occasional adversaries.
- A preference for hard work. Activism is our passion and one of the main motivations in life. Importantly, the salary you will receive comes from donors who trust us to carefully and responsibly fulfill our promises. To fit our culture, you have to be a person who is proactive and prepared to deliver a high degree of personal effort for animals.
- Growth mindset. Nobody knows how to fix the world, so we need you to keep learning. We constantly strive to be better at our activism, but also as people.
- Strong interest in a high-feedback culture. We have a culture of honest and direct communication. We talk openly about our strengths and weaknesses on a daily basis because we want to be the best. You will know what your colleagues really think of you and be encouraged to speak your mind.
- Ability to reason and communicate your thinking, especially in written form. In order to thrive in our organization, you must be able to think carefully, try to back up your ideas with reasonable evidence, and above all be open to being proven wrong and changing your mind.
- Ability and desire to solve problems independently. Working with us comes with a lot of autonomy, and responsibility. You will seek and test new solutions and tools, take on challenges, and face problems no one in the organization has encountered before.
- Ability to work effectively within a team. Autonomy does not equal working alone. We treat Anima International as one efficiently functioning organism, and we collaborate extensively across teams. We believe that we can achieve more by working together, rather than as individuals. Such an approach requires the ability to prioritize the organization and its mission above one’s ego, and “we” above “I”. We do what is needed regardless of job description or team objectives.
- Comfort with systems thinking and structure. You should enjoy making sense of complexity — building simple, efficient systems that make others’ work easier. Seeing patterns, anticipating bottlenecks, and creating structure where there is none will be central to your success in this role.
- Reliability and follow-through. Operations is about making sure that what needs to happen actually happens. You’ll need strong personal organisation skills and the discipline to close loops, keep track of details, and maintain momentum even during busy campaign periods.
- Ability to navigate digital tools and systems. We rely heavily on technology to coordinate our work across countries and campaigns. You don’t need to be a programmer, but being comfortable learning new tools, automating tasks, or communicating effectively with our international IT team is a strong advantage. Technical curiosity and a do-it-yourself mindset will help you work faster and more independently — and make the whole organisation run smoother.
You do not need to be vegan or vegetarian. While all of our events provide only plant-based meals, we are open to anyone who wants to fight for a world that is free from animal suffering.

- Oversee employment – you will oversee payroll, staff contracts, and employment matters and payments.
- Manage and optimize finances – you will be in charge of our income and expenses. This will include making sure that we have efficient and accurate accounting, and that we have enough income to achieve our goals.
- Help ensure legal governance – you will help submit our annual accounts to relevant authorities and ensure compliance with all legal duties, such as making tax payments.
- Support and maintain donor relations – you will handle donor support, making sure they receive timely and thoughtful replies when they reach out. You will also help keep our donor database accurate and up to date, record donations, and support basic reporting. Your work will ensure that our fundraising systems remain reliable and well-documented.
- Improve team coordination – you will worry about how to make the team more effective and help us work better together by improving structure, tools, and internal processes.
- Build and improve tools – you will spot inefficiencies and opportunities in our processes and improve them, for example by building automation tools.
- Plan events – you will handle logistics and planning for internal and external events such as recruitments, training, and team building activities.
- Obsess over speed – your job will not be to simply manage internal operations, but to reduce the organisation’s time spent on them so that it becomes faster and more efficient.

Important information about our recruitment process
Why is this recruitment in English?
We take recruitment extremely seriously. Our process is carefully designed, anonymized, sometimes even randomized, and always scored manually — no algorithms, no shortcuts. This makes it fairer, but also a very big job. In Norway, we currently only have two full-time staff who do not specialize in people operations, with the professionalism it requires, without neglecting other crucial work in Norway. That’s why we draw on the resources and expertise of our international team.
Because full proficiency in English is required for these roles, running the process in English should not create a hurdle for qualified candidates.
Overview of the process
We value your competence rather than credentials
The aim of the process is to get to know you, this is why we put heavy emphasis on tests.
We don’t rely on interviews and first impressions
People who make a good impression during interviews are not always the best fit for the organization – and vice versa. We prefer to talk to you after we’ve had the chance to learn a bit about you, your way of thinking and your ideas.
We aim to be fair and minimise bias
To avoid bias, our recruitment process in most of the stages is blind, anonymized and randomized by someone not participating in the candidates’ evaluations. We put substantial effort into making sure we rate all applicants objectively.
We hope to reduce application obstacles and make the recruitment process dignifying
We will be hosting webinars for those interested to give a glimpse into what the role is about and how we work, and help combat performance anxiety. We also provide a list of materials for people who lack the necessary experience or expertise for the role.
Ideally, after the recruitment, we will try to provide feedback on our rationale and comment on stronger and weaker aspects of a candidate if rejected. Please note that the feedback feature may be limited by the number of participants due to limits in our resources. Most likely we will only be able to provide feedback to candidates who reach later stages of the recruitment process.
Due to the structure of our recruitment process, it may be time-consuming and demanding.
Participants will be compensated for the work trial.
Timeline
- 15.10-16.11 – Apply – time for you to apply (just fill out the questionnaire here).
- 22.11-26.11 – Take part in a one-way interview and answer a few brief questions – We will let you know if you advance to the next stage. If so, we will invite you to a short asynchronous interview, where you will record answers to a few questions.
- 04.12-14.12 – Do role-specific tasks – We will let you know if you advance to the next stage. If so, we will send you some tasks to complete.
- 20.12-23.12 - Learn if you’re advancing to the next stage – We will let you know before the holidays whether you’re moving forward, so you won’t be left waiting during the break.
- 24.12-04.01 - Holidays break - We don’t want anyone to spend their holidays stressing about recruitment tasks. While this makes the overall timeline a bit longer, we think it’s more respectful to pause during this period and give everyone the chance to switch off.
- 05.01-11.01 – Join an interview – If you successfully pass the previous stage, we will invite you for an interview.
- Reference check – We will ask you for contact information for a few professional references, such as former employers or supervisors, to talk about your skills and traits. However, we will only contact them if you are invited to take part in the last stage of the process.
- 17.01-15.02 – Do a short work trial with us – If you successfully pass the previous stage, we will invite you to join us for a two-day work trial. You will be compensated for this.
- 16.02-17.02 – Learn whether you are accepted – We will contact you to let you know about the final decision regarding your application.
- 18.02-13.03 – Get feedback from us – if you are interested, we will do our best to provide feedback to help you understand what we rated positively in your application and what we didn’t. We hope this will help you in getting another impactful position. This stage is heavily dependent on the amount of participants due to constraints in our capacity.
